James

James Abbott

Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer

James has 14 years of senior executive management experience at a publicly-traded bank and 12 years of experience in the capital markets. James served as the director of investor relations and external communications at Zions Bancorporation; he served as a vocal member of several committees and councils including asset-liability management, capital management, allowance for credit loss, problem loan review, customer restitution, and social media. Before Zions, he was a senior equity analyst with FBR Capital Markets covering the banking industry, where he covered over 100 banks, called the downturn in the U.S. housing market in November 2007 as part of the ”California Dreamin’” monthly publication that he founded, and ranked best thrift/mortgage finance earnings estimator (2005-2008).  His recommendations (5-year track record) outperformed industry benchmarks by 530 bps (median). Prior to FBR, he worked at SNL Financial and Fidelity Investments.

Daniel Lee, CFA

Co-Founder and President

Dan has 20+ years as a CFO and professional investor (public and private equities) across a variety of sectors, particularly financials.  Prior to DCM, Dan served as the CFO & Head of Corporate Development for Sizzle Acquisition (NASDAQ; SZZL), which merged with Europe’s first licensed lithium mine to create Critical Metals (NASDAQ: CRML).  Before Sizzle, he served as CFO of a human capital business and a PE-backed fintech company, where he raised capital, institutionalized the finance functions, and improved profitability.  Before these operating roles, he was on the investment team at NextGen Venture Partners, an early-stage VC firm, where he led Seed and Series A investments in technology startups.  Prior to NextGen, Dan was a Senior Equity Analyst at Profit Investment Management, a $2.4 billion AUM institutional asset manager where he led investments in financial, financial technology, and industrial stocks.  He began his finance career in the insurance equity research group at FBR Capital Markets, where he covered 40+ U.S. and international insurance stocks.  Dan received his B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Steve Egli

Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager

Steve has over 20 years of advising community and regional banks on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and long-term strategic planning. Prior to joining Diligence Capital, he founded Osoro Advisors, a strategic advisory firm that counseled banks and investors on growth strategy, capital structure, and market positioning. Before Osoro, Steve spent almost 20 years as a senior investment banker at Stephens, Raymond James, and Sandler O’Neill + Partners, where he collectively advised on more than 40 completed M&A transactions totaling over $5.5 billion, managed 18 equity offerings with proceeds exceeding $3.4 billion, and led 3 debt offerings raising more than $77 million. Over the course of his investment banking career, he worked with bank CEOs and boards on over 200 proposed M&A and capital transactions, leading due diligence, integration planning, and financial modeling. Steve began his career at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in Washington, D.C., where he served in the Policy and Economics Group and helped prepare congressional testimony, conduct research on industry structure and lending trends, and support strategic planning efforts. He earned his B.A. in Finance and Economics from Utah State University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
